I’ve recently had two experiences upgrading to Windows 7. 1-3-2010
The first experience was an upgrade from Windows XP Professional to Windows 7 Professional. This was upgraded using a disk provided be the Window 7 upgrade offer from an OEM vendor. The computer was a laptop purchased May 5, 2009. I did not run the advisor and performed a complete reformat/restore with no data backup. It took approximately 20 minutes and the upgrade was flawless. I was impressed.
My second experience involved an HP laptop running Window Vista Home Premium. I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and it indicated that I would have to uninstall Windows Live One Care. I would not be able to use Windows Live One Care after the upgrade. Also, the HP Quick Launch buttons would not function after the upgrade. The HP website indicated that was true and HP had no plans to create a fix for the problem. It also indicated that I could upgrade to Windows 7. The customer purchased the Windows 7 Professional download from the Microsoft Store. She attempted to install it herself and it failed. I spoke to a customer service rep at the Microsoft Store and they stated that the customer could only upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Ultimate. They would refund her money. Why didn’t the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor indicate that?
